As part of "The Walking Dead" franchise's further expansion into the gaming sphere, a game developer known for its "Game of Thrones" based mobile game would release a new free-to-play mobile strategy game for "TWD." The game, titled "The Walking Dead: March to War," will be released in 2017 as it aims to take advantage of the franchise's hot streak.
"March to War" would be a story-driven strategy game in which players are tasked with surviving on limited resources. A trailer released by developer Disruptor Beam asks players a simple question: “What will you do to survive?” The game is set in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C.
"The Walking Dead: March to War" Poses Challenging Moral Choices
According to Gamerant, the game will have players rebuild their community while battling hordes of zombies. Players need to lead their group in gathering a team of survivors, including some well-known characters in AMC's "The Walking Dead" series such as Michonne and Rick. To keep themselves and their communities safe from various threats expected to arise, players could face many challenging moral choices.
Ahead of the new game, Disruptor Beam would also release in November “The Walking Dead: Season Three.” Disruptor Beam is also the studio behind the development of multiplayer games such as “Star Trek: Timelines” and “Game of Thrones: Ascent” which are story-driven. Disruptor Beam would launch the app in March on the iOS App Store and Android Google Play market, as per VentureBeat.
Using License As Platform To Tell Narratives
The new game would take its license and use it as a platform to tell narratives that connect players with and against one another. “Walking Dead: March to War” adds to the sustainable business that Disruptor Beam built by adapting large properties to its free-to-play social gameplay which helped the developer carve a niche in the $36.6-billion mobile gaming industry.
The company has millions of users globally. “We’ve had success bringing both Star Trek and Game of Thrones to mobile, allowing fans of these franchises to tell their own stories through gameplay and the connections they make with other players,” Disruptor Beam Chief Executive and founder Jon Radoff said in a statement.
