Nokia will be announcing the Windows Phone 8 device as early as September this year, reveals a recent report.
According to Bloomberg, "a person with knowledge of the matter" has informed them about Nokia's plans to announce an unknown number of handsets at its Nokia World 2012 conference that will take place on September 5-6 in Helsinki, Finland. The release time of the new WP8 devices has been designed strategically so that the Finnish smartphone maker can tap the year's final holiday season. During the same season, Samsung is also expected to launch the next-generation Galaxy Note (Galaxy Note 2 being the rumored name) and Apple, if rumors come true, may also launch its next iteration of the iPhone ( dubbed the iPhone 5).
Earlier, an Unwiredview.com report claimed that Nokia's first Windows Phone 8 running smartphone would be Nokia Lumia 910, a Lumia 900 variant, with a bigger 32 GB storage capacity. Some other reports have also claimed the launch of another Lumia phone, Lumia 1001.
Meanwhile, Samsung, HTC, Huawei, ZTE, Acer, and Lenovo are also in queue to unleash the WP8 devices this year. Reportedly, HTC will release Zenith, Accord, and Rio, three high-end, mid-range, and entry-level options, respectively, running on Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8 OS. Some other reports claim that Samsung's first Windows Phone 8 smartphone will be named Samsung Focus 2.
WP8 is slated to release later this year. The newly-unveiled Microsoft OS comes with stunning features like higher screen resolutions, Start Screen with Live Tiles, Nokia Map and multi-core chipset support, NFC, Microsoft Wallet, and more.
A report from IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker shows that Samsung is currently dominating the smartphone market, ousting rival Apple in the race. Nokia, on the other hand, comes in at third position with its dropped market share of 6.6 percent in 2012, compared to its previous15.4 percent (2011).
