Google is determined to close Panoramio on November. Even many users do not agree with the company's decision, the tech giant is determined and stands firm that the file sharing site is finally will not be available anymore.
Panoramio was bought by Google last 2007 to Spanish businessmen Eduardo Aguilar and Joaquin Abela. The two businessmen created the photo-sharing site last 2005. Google used the site in order for Google Maps and Google Earth to maximize their space.
Panoramio To Shut Down Next Month
Google previously tried to shut down Panoramio back in 2014, but its users petitioned for the site to remain open. Now, the company is deciding once and for all to shut it down, according to Indian Express.
"Today, with photo upload tools in Google Maps and our Local Guides program, we are providing easy options for you to share your photos with an active and growing community. As such, we've decided to now close down Panoramio," Google told its Panoramio users last Oct. 8 via email.
Photographs stored in the users account in Panoramio will be transferred to Google Album Archive, Tech Crunch reported. Also, users can still access the photos stored in the original file sharing site until next year even if it will shut down on Nov. 4.
Google Encourages Users To Use Its Own Storage
According to Gadgets NDTV, the California tech giant wants the Panoramio users to try Local Guide programs and to directly upload their photographs in Google Drive. The users do not have to worry because Google will not use any of the storage quotas for photographs.
The photos will also auomatically upload to a Google Album archive, so users need not worry about losing their images. Google wants its users to use Google Photos for future uploads by their users.
Google wants its users to maximize the apps it provides to its customers because the tech giant is promoting its new and improved apps. It seems that Panoramio will soon be another forgotten app.
