Microsoft wants to change the way it regularly does with its Xbox One games. One crucial change is that the company is launching Xbox Play Anywhere, where obviously you can guess that it can allow you to play at any Microsoft related devices with Xbox One games. Well, that's partly correct as currently, you can play an Xbox One game on an Xbox One or a Windows 10 computer (provided it has the hardware to run graphic intensive games for most of it). Another feature is that you can actually continue your game played on the Xbox One with your laptop or PC.
How to avail it? Well, there are certain do's and don'ts you need to know first before you go shopping for anything and just end up wasting your hard earned cash set aside for gaming as it is reported at Cheat Sheet. Let's dig in to the details, shall we?
It will only work with digital games
Gamers who like to collect hard copies of games; we have some bad news for you. Play anywhere only supports digital versions. On the bright side, you no longer have to dust them off. And they can be bought without leaving your homes via the Xbox One store, Xbox mobile app, Xbox.com, The Windows Store, and Microsoft.com.
Not all games are covered
Another nitty gritty you have to look into - not all games are compatible with the Play Anywhere feature. Majority of the games covered are mostly published by Microsoft as third-party publishers are currently in the process of deciding to join the bandwagon. Here's a list of games that currently will work: ReCore, Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4, Killer Instinct Season 3, State of Decay 2, Ark: Survival Evolved, and many more that you can constantly check for updates here.
All DLC covered on all devices
One good news though, DLCs will work on all platforms covered by Play Anywhere. This includes season pass, consumables, expansions, unlocked rewards. Basically, if the DLC is on your Xbox One, you can also have it on your Windows 10 PC or laptop. Pretty neat, huh?
Only one set of achievements
Similar to the DLCs, you will only have one set of achievement per game, which is pretty reasonable. For those who are fund of artificially inflating their achievements hoping that PC and Xbox One stats stack up, this is bad news. Anyway, you're just paying for one game.
One player only
For those who are planning to log in on both PC and Xbox One at the same time with just one game purchase, hold your horses. There is some security feature that only allows one device login at a time. With that said, you will need internet connection while playing to verify that only one device is using the game at any given moment. For homes with at least 2 gamers in it, better make a schedule on who gets to play what at a certain time, or you can just buy duplicate copies, whichever works.
Xbox Play Anywhere is free
Another good news besides the fact that this article bears more bad ones is that Xbox Play Anywhere is free. So you might as well install them on all your PCs and Xbox Ones. One neat trick you can do here is that you can Play Anywhere in the house, whatever is closest to you, you can play right away. Here is a trailer on how Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere should work:
