The instant messaging app WhatsApp, which went missing from the Microsoft Windows Phone Marketplace for a short while, has made a comeback. What's more the app now allows users to download it for free.
WhatsApp went AWOL earlier this month, with the cross-platform instant messaging app disappearing from the Windows Phone Marketplace without any official word. A few reports claimed that the app was taken down due to a security issue. However, it is now believed that all the issues have been fixed in the newest version of the app.
Previously, rumors suggested that the app would reappear as a paid solution, but those rumors were proven baseless with WhatsApp continuing to be a free solution for those wishing to cut down on the unnecessary SMS charges.
“WhatsApp Messenger is a smartphone messenger available for Windows Phone, Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, and Nokia phones. WhatsApp uses your 3G or WiFi (when available) to message with friends and family. Switch from SMS to WhatsApp to send and receive messages, pictures, audio notes, and video messages. First year FREE! ($0.99/year after),” the official Marketplace states.
The current version of WhatsApp – version 2.8.0.0 – is quite similar to the earlier one that was available before the app suddenly disappeared. The app’s toolbar now features "Search," "My Status," and "Create Group" options. However, those hoping for big changes, compared to the earlier versions, will be disappointed.
WhatsApp for Windows Phone can be downloaded from WP Marketplace.
