Android Will Not Get New Adobe Flash Installations Anymore

The partnership between Android and Adobe lasted an eternity. After failing to capture the mobile market in the way it may have hoped, Adobe, last November, had finally decided to put an end to Flash for Android.

Since the Adobe decision, the plug-in has been on a steady decline. However, on Aug. 15 Flash will be finally gone for good, with Adobe cutting-off new installations.

Adobe, till now, has been extremely accommodating towards Android Flash fans and delivered a new version with support for Ice Cream Sandwich even after announcing the product's demise, as well as providing the occasional security patch. However, this feature was meant to stop in sometime and with the arrival of Jelly Bean, Adobe made it clear that users would finally have to let go of Flash.

"Beginning August 15th we will use the configuration settings in the Google Play Store to limit continued access to Flash Player updates to only those devices that have Flash Player already installed," the official Adobe pagestates. "Devices that do not have Flash Player already installed are increasingly likely to be incompatible with Flash Player and will no longer be able to install it from the Google Play Store after August 15th."

"The easiest way to ensure ongoing access to Flash Player on Android 4.0 or earlier devices is to use certified devices and ensure that the Flash Player is either pre-installed by the manufacturer or installed from Google Play Store before August 15th. If a device is upgraded from Android 4.0 to Android 4.1, the current version of Flash Player may exhibit unpredictable behavior, as it is not certified for use with Android 4.1. Future updates to Flash Player will not work. We recommend uninstalling Flash Player on devices which have been upgraded to Android 4.1."

However, there are developers who will need the ongoing access to released versions of Flash Player for Android. For them it will be available in the archive of released Flash Player versions. It is important to note that installations made from the archive will not receive updates through the Google Play Store.

“*** NOTE: FLASH PLAYER IS NO LONGER BEING UPDATED FOR NEW DEVICE CONFIGURATIONS. FLASH PLAYER WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED ON ANY ANDROID VERSION BEYOND ANDROID 4.0.x ***," statesthe official Adobe Flash Player page on Google Play .
