Apple iPad Mini Rumor: Leaked Image of Flex Cable with Headphone Jack at Bottom Surfaces

Apple's upcoming products are creating a ruckus on the Internet. Rumor mills have been working overtime to generate more and more reports about the possible features, release date, and images of the next-gen iPhone. While the debut of Apple's new iPad Mini is speculated, some images of the dock connector flex cable for the purported iPad Mini have surfaced.

French website Nowhereelse.fr, after sharing the iPhone 5 Nano SIM tray, the full front assembly of the device, and dock connector, shared a new image of a flex cable which is believed to be for the fabled iPad Mini. Flex cable is a cable that connects the smaller dock connector, headphone jack, and home button connector.

The report also mentions that the repair guru Kyle Wiens of iFixit took a look at the cable and maintained that it was consistent with Apple's components. Wiens, however, could not confirm the authenticity of the image.

The leaked image of the Flex cable supports earlier claims of a smaller dock connector that is set to debut with the next-gene iPhone this September. Moreover, the leaked Flex image shows that the cable has the headphone jack at the bottom.

However, the French website mentions that the close proximity of the headphone jack to the dock connector is "troublesome" to be called authentic, as other leaked images of various parts of the iPad Mini have indicated that the headphone jack of the new iPad will be located on the top of the device similar to the current iPad.

Additionally, ThinkiOS in July, citing an anonymous source, indicated that the latest iPad Mini will sport a design that is similar to the current iPad. However, the iPad Mini will be significantly smaller than its predecessor and is expected to be the thinnest Apple tablet ever.

Speculations regarding a 7-inch iPad started flying high in 2012 when companies like Amazon and Google entered the smaller tablet space.

While we knew that the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was dismissive of a 7-inch iPad Mini, a recent court document, that was furnished during Apple and Samsung's ongoing patent trial, established that Jobs was "very receptive" towards the possibility of a 7-inch Apple iPad.

Reportedly, Apple will be organizing a big event on Sept. 12, where the Cupertino tech giant will unleash the year's two most-rumored and much-awaited devices - iPhone 5 and iPad Mini.
