There was one hedgehog that changed the world - Sonic! If you were one of the lucky gamers who were able to get their hands on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and played Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991 then I would understand if tears are steaming on your cheeks right now. So much memories, I know (was in 1st grade and don't remember coming to class but I remembered collecting rings...). Before we all decide to sulk in the corner reminiscing childhood memories, let's all celebrate our beloved hedgehog's 25th anniversary.
Sonic The Hedgehog's 25th Anniversary
Sega Europe recently announced plans to put on an art collection exhibition in celebration of Sonic The Hedgehog's 25th anniversary. The said exhibit will have a VIP gallery launch on Dec.1 at the Castle Fine Art's South Molton Street, London branch, as mentioned in the press release. The Sega Sonic Anniversary exhibit will then open to the public the next day.
Sonic The Hedgehog Art Exhibit
Sonic Art Exhibit will feature original works "executed through a number of mediums and creative styles, including sculpture, painting and mixed media". So to those expecting to see a Dr. Robotnik art piece, it's not impossible!
Sonic 25th Anniversary Press Release reads: The Sonic licensing programme is already well known for its art programmes but we wanted to really push the boundaries with this project. With Washington Green we have been able to create a one-of-a-kind collection for the franchise. They have given us access to some of contemporary art's most celebrated artists not to mention a number of new up and coming talents. The result is a collection of truly stunning and innovative works from some of the finest painters and sculptors around today.
Sonic the Hedgehog art exhibit will include original pieces that can be reproduced and sold even as signed limited editions. Not only that, each of the piece will come with a certificate of authenticity, hand signed by the great Naoto Oshima. Yes, he is one of the founding designers of the original Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. These Sonic limited edition pieces will be available from Dec.2.
