If you thought that modding tools for EA DICE’s popular FPS “Battlefield 3” is about to arrive, you are in for a harsh awakening. Per latest reports, the game’s developers have revealed that they are afraid of releasing modding tools for gamers because of potential exploits that could break the game.
Following the successful implementation of mod-tools in DICE's “Battlefield 2", the mod tools were eagerly anticipated. However, DICE's Karl Magnus Troedsson explained the mod-tool situation in “Battlefield 3” and why users should not be expecting the tools anytime soon (if at all).
According to a report by Gamasutra, Troeddson says that giving players access to all the pieces of code that is necessary to build great mods could render the community vulnerable to hacking exploits, which could potentially damage the shooter whose main focus is online gameplay.
“We’re afraid of all the things that can come with releasing the code,” said Troeddson. “If we do mod support, we want to do it really, really well. We are not ready to do this yet.”
He also added that “Battlefield 3” is not just a PC release but also available on console, and that if DICE was to accommodate modding tools, it would want to provide these to console players too.
A tricky situation for DICE; however, experts aver that EA DICE should repose a little more trust in its fans.
Additionally, EA has already announced “Battlefield 3 Premium Edition.” This edition includes all the DLCs for “Battlefield 3” along with a Battlefield 3 multiplayer head-start kit, which is designed to help players who are new to multiplayer by giving them as many as 15 new weapons, gadgets, and vehicles.
Battlefield 3 Premium Edition delivers more than 25 maps, over 70 weapons and vehicles, and dozens of unlocks and upgrades.
