Users who are associated with custom Android ROMs will have an idea about the Android Open Kang Project or AOKP. The job of the AOKP is to take AOSP stock code and expand upon it, adding in tons of features and extra customizable options.
Currently, after the arrival of Android 4.1, there have been a host of builds of AOKP, and also some official. However, the formal release was still based on Ice Cream Sandwich. However, currently, the base is set to be shifted to Jelly Bean, following news of the first official Jelly Bean build.
"If you'll notice, the number of devices we are releasing this for is extremely limited. These are just the devices most of us daily driver, so they have gotten our attention first. Over time, more will get added as things slow down and as we get some device maintainers," the official AOKP page states.
A lot of the ICS features have already been implemented into this build and users can expect improved features and experience. Some of the AOKP-listed features and instructions are as follows:
- Notification Toggles
- Lockscreen tweaks (no custom targets yet)
- Navigation bar modifications
- Custom kernel performance options
- LED colors
- Notification wallpapers
- Phone ringer modifications (Flip call to silent, silent/vibrate when headphones are in)
The instructions are also pretty simple. Just follow the steps below:
- Download build for your device, place on SD card
- Download gapps, place on SD card
- Reboot into recovery
- Wipe/factory reset! If you think you can get away without wiping from ICS ->JellyBean, you won't be happy camper. Wipe!
- Flash jb-build-1
- Flash Gapps
- Reboot
