Qualcomm to Pack Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core Chipset in Next LG Smartphone

Qualcomm, the world-leading telecommunications equipment manufacturer, announced that its Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core chipset will power LG's next smartphone. Qualcomm reported that the smartphone is currently in production and is slated for a September launch in Korea, followed by a global rollout.

Korean news site Asia Today reported that the alleged LG device will be codenamed "Optimus G" and the device is already in production. LG, however, is yet to make any official declaration about the upcoming device.

According to the Asia Today (translated) report, Optimus G will come with a 4.7-inch IPS True HD screen, quad-core Snapdragon S4 CPU with 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and LG's Optimus UI 3.0. The smartphone will also support 4G LTE connectivity. Tech experts are of the opinion that LG's Optimus G smartphone will be pitched as a direct competitor to Samsung's Galaxy S3, HTC's One X, and LG's own Optimus 4X HD. The LG Optimus G will be available in the U.S. as well as in key European markets.

Additionally, AnandTech claimed that the Qualcomm will pack in APQ8064 quad-core SoC including the Adreno 320 GPU along with MDM9615 baseband chip. The same combination has been used in the upcoming Xiamoi's China-only Mi2 smartphone. If Xiamoi does not release the phone before October, LG's new device can become the world's first phone with the APQ8064, featuring four asynchronous CPU cores which supposedly will be 'independently controlled for maximum efficiency.'
