Dropbox is quite a useful app to have around and users who are familiar with its functionalities are aware of its full potential and virtues. The app is mostly used for backing up and storing crucial data, which is aided by the fact that everybody wants a secured space to store important data. To add more security, Dropbox has recently added a 2-step verification sign-in to its latest betas.
The latest Dropbox beta works on the same principle as that of Google's 2-step verification. Users need their password and phone or tablet in order to access their Dropbox account and to add the second step verification to their account, which makes security more stronger and safer (remember what happened with Mat Honan?).
"Two-step verification adds an extra layer of protection to your account by requiring an additional security code that is sent to your phone by text message or generated using a mobile authenticator app," states the official Dropbox forum.
All users need to do is to check whether they have the latest forum build (1.5.12) installed. If the latest version is installed, users can head over to the two-step verification link to try out the feature. It should be noted that users may need to sign in to the Web site. The link will direct users to their account's Security tab. In the "Account sign in" section (near the bottom of the page) users can find the new "Two-step verification" option. Click on the "(change)" link to begin the set-up process.
Users can pick up the Dropbox app from the Google Play Store. Additionally, more information on the 2-step account verification is available here.
