CPU/GPU Capabilities of Mobile Devices will Reach Xbox 360 Levels: Activision

We have already seen the power of new smartphones and tablets. With quad-core becoming more and more common, and 2GB of RAM set to enter into the portable world, the handheld gaming scenario is reaching new heights almost every day. Recently, Activision's Greg Canessa asserted that CPU/GPU Capabilities of Mobile Devices will Reach Xbox 360 Levels.

In a recent interview with CVG, Greg Canessa, Activision's vice president of mobile development, stated that "The CPU and GPU capabilities of mobile devices will reach Xbox 360 levels of graphical fidelity and processing power within the next generation."

"Activision will be creating a mix of casual and immersive gaming experiences on mobile, but as I say smartphones are more and more allowing for us to create those kinds of experiences. The games that Activision publishes on console, the games it publishes on PC, pretty soon we'll be publishing those kinds of experiences on tablets and smartphones," said Canessa.

Canessa also underlined the company's "rich thirty-year history from the Atari days to the Blizzard merger" and asserted that Activions had "about 350 different brands and IPs to work with."

He went on to note that "Mobile is an emerging business for the company and it's something we're taking very seriously."

It would be foolish to expect a full-fledged mobile revolution for games like "Black Ops 2" anytime soon; however, Canessa's assertions suggest that Activision has something up its sleeve for the future.
