Samsung unveiled its much talked-about EK-GC100 Galaxy Camera on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the IFA event. With the latest smart-camera, Samsung has innovatively and successfully combined a pocket camera with an Android smartphone.
Samsung's unique smart camera runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on a massive 4.8-inch HD LCD display. The display sports a 16-megapixel backside-illuminated sensor and a retractable lens that comes with 21x optical zoom. The camera display is touch enabled and sports scLCD technology, 1280x720 resolution with 308ppi density.
The EK-GC100 Galaxy Camera packs in a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G wireless options. The new Galaxy Camera, however, does not come with SD card compatibility. Additionally, the 1,650mAh battery provides up to seven hours of battery life while connected.
Samsung has introduced 10 Smart Pro modes, which will ease the process of taking professionally-styled photos in ideal settings for 10 different scenarios including Waterfall Trace and Night Trace. The Auto mode, on the other hand, will give the user access to a touch-to-focus system while leaving the rest of the computing to the camera.
The Korean tech giant has opted for a standard 1/2.33-inch BSI CMOS sensor, which is capable of 16-megapixel images. While users may not get the best picture quality, the 21x, f/2.8-5.9, 23-480mm lens will enable better snaps than any other currently available smartphone camera.
An interesting Smart Content Manager app will create folders, tag faces, and also identify and recommend bad shots for deletion.
The Galaxy Camera is not just limited to clicking images, but will also let the user share the photographs via wireless connectivity. Additionally, the Galaxy Camera comes with a Share Shot option for connecting to other nearby Galaxy devices and also provides Auto Cloud Backup.
The EK-GC100 Galaxy Camera will be released in Q4 2012 and will be marketed and launched in partnership with mobile operators.
