While Samsung and Sony are releasing bevy of products at this year's IFA, HTC, the struggling Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, is also trying to make an impact at the same event and, thus, unveiled its much-rumored Desire X on Thursday, Aug. 30.
The Desire X is a 4-inch smartphone sporting a touch-enabled WVGA LCD display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. The new HTC smartphone, that primarily targets the budget-minded users, runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, HTC's Sense UI, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage. HTC offers 25GB of free online storage from Dropbox for two years to all the buyers. The Desire X sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera that includes HTC's ImageChip, an f/2.0, 28mm wide-angle lens, BSI sensor, HDR mode, and automatic adjustable flash. Moreover, the VideoPic feature also lets the user take video and still photos at the same time.
Despite the fact that earlier this year, Beats Audio bought back half of HTC's shares in the company accusing the Taiwanese manufacturer of not fulfilling certain contractual obligations it had decided to while purchasing the stake in the company, HTC has packed in a built-in Beats Audio feature in Desire X.
"HTC Desire X is an extension of your social life," said Jason Mackenzie, President, Global Sales and Marketing for HTC Corporation. "If you're looking to enjoy and share high quality multimedia, wherever you are, this is the phone for you. It not only looks and sounds great, but also provides a super-fast, highly personal mobile experience at a great price."
The Desire X smartphone is expected to hit the European and Asia Pacific markets beginning next month. The company, however, did not provide any information about the U.S. launch date and pricing of Desire X.
