During the launch of the new iPhone series, many have been drooling over the ultra-elegant iPhone 7 Plus in Jet Black color. However, the bigger iPhone in a piano-like finish has been so far elusive, until now. Is the iPhone 7 Plus worth buying over the other color options though? Is it worth the premium price it demands?
The iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black Is Now Available, Finally
According to a report from MacRumors, the iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black is now widely available in different Apple stores from key cities like San Franciso, New York, Los Angeles and Miami to name a few. The data was gathered by monitoring the iPhone 7 unit's reservations and located them via Google Map. The report also made a call of doing the reservation now as this one is likely to sell like hot cakes and should be off the shelves in no time.
The Jet Black Variant's Manufacturing Process
The same report noted the meticulous ordeal in which the particular Jet Black variant of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are made. It involves a precise nine-step process of metal-anodizing and polishing that leads to only 60-70 percent of units passing the quality checks. This scenario is causing the iPhone 7 Jet Black option to have longer manufacturing process, thereby resulting to lower supply.
iPhone 7 Plus vs Other Variants - Pricing
One thing that should be considered in choosing the Jet Black option over the other variant is the price. According to Apple's website, the iPhone 7 Plus sells at $769 for the 32 GB base model, $869 for the 128 GB and $969 for the 256 GB. On the other hand, the iPhone 7 goes for $749 and $849 for the 128 GB and 256 GB model respectively. The price difference can be compensated by the iPhone 7 Plus' exclusive features such as the dual camera set-up, a higher resolution of 1080p and a bigger 5.5-inch display.
iPhone 7 Plus vs Other Variants - Aesthetics
If price is not a concern, which is always the case for iPhone buyers, the one thing that should be considered is its design. Granted, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus don the same OS, functions (except for the dual camera on the bigger sibling) and design, color is likely another factor for consideration. This area is where the iPhone 7 Jet Black option shines by having a glossy finish, while the other color options namely Silver, Rose Gold and Black have the usual matte finish. This can be a concern for users as the Jet Black is more slippery and a fingerprint magnet than the others. However, the most glaring fact to consider about the Jet Black option is its vulnerability to scratches as Business Insider reported.
The Decision
Since all of the variants is almost similar in function and would differ only on presentation, the decision to pick among the options given falls on the consumers. The size, price and color preferences are unique in every user which Apple remarkably considered in making the iPhones. Whether you choose the iPhone 7 or the iPhone 7 Plus in a different color, there should not be that much difference in user experience if a consumer picks the iPhone 7 Jet Black instead.
