Amazon to Launch Next Generation Kindle Fire with Dual-Display?

Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet, which grabbed buyers' attention more because of its low price tag and less for its features, may well change the market dynamics by incorporating the most innovative feature of all time.

According to a Mashable report, Amazon, the e-commerce giant, has been awarded a patent for a tablet with dual display i.e. a colored LCD in the front and an energy efficient E-ink display at the rear.

With this new dual-display feature on board, Kindle Fire will likely have an edge over its contemporaries.

Per the patent, the e-ink and LCD displays would work together but will be placed on opposing sides of the device. While one display will be static in order to aid reading, the LCD display could be used for watching videos. The patent filing also explained that the device will automatically switch content between two displays taking cue from the front- and rear-facing cameras.

Moreover, while viewing static content on the LCD, moving the content to the e-ink display with a tap will enable users to save power.

"An electronic device including two or more display elements can provide enhanced functionality with improved rates of power consumption. A user can cause information that does not change rapidly to be provided or moved to a relatively static display element, such as an electronic ink display, which enables that information to be displayed for a period of time with little additional power consumption," states the patent filing.

Amazon, reportedly, is planning a press event in Los Angeles on Sept. 6, in which it is expected to unveil its next-generation Kindle e-reader and Kindle Fire tablet devices.
