Samsung Reveals Series 5 Touch Ultrabook at $799

Samsung has taken the wraps off its new 13-inch touchscreen ultrabook at IFA in Berlin. The latest iteration of Samsung's Series 5 ultrabook is slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor but flaunts two vital differentiators from the original - Windows 8 and a touchscreen.

Dubbed the Series 5 Ultra laptop, the new Samsung sports a third-generation Intel Core i3 or i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and 500 GB hard drive. The Series 5 Ultra features a 1366x768 resolution display with Samsung's SuperBright technology (300 nits). The latest Samsung ultrabook comes equipped with dual USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, a multi-format card reader (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC), a mini VGA port, and a full-size HDMI port.

Additionally, Samsung is also providing some customized apps. The new Windows-based ultrabook will have Samsung's various "Hubs" along with its "AllShare" app to share content across different devices.

Samsung has also designed a few desktop applications specifically for the new Windows 8, which will help users get accustomed to the new Microsoft OS. The desktop apps include the "S-Launcher", which replicates the now removed Start Menu, whereas the "eSettings" app helps find power management or display settings in Windows 8.

The entry-level Core i3 processor model comes with a price tag of $799, while the i5 version costs $899.

The latest ultrabook will be available in the U.S. from Oct. 26, the same day Microsoft launches Windows 8.
