Huawei Mate 9 Specs, Update: Leak Shows Two Variants With Different Back Panels

The latest Huawei Mate 9 leak seemingly confirms that two variants are coming soon. The images show the rear panels of the two variants with slightly different designs.

Huawei Mate 9 Variants

According to GSMArena, there are previous rumors indicating that the Huawei Mate 9 is arriving with two models: one with a flat screen and one with a curved screen, similar to Samsung's S7 flagships. The recently leaked images corroborate this belief as two back panels can be seen.

The rear designs of the two Huawei Mate 9 variants sport different camera setups. Both have dual cameras by Leica, but one called Long Island has the dual tone flash and laser autofocus all on the right side, while the bigger one codenamed Manhattan has the dual tone flash on the left and the other one on the right.

According to rumors, the cameras on both Huawei Mate 9 handsets will sport 20MP lens with f/2.0 aperture.

The fingerprint scanner looks different in the two variants also. The one on Manhattan has a circle shape, while it is square-ish on the Long Island. What is intriguing is that the scanner on the back contradicts the previously leaked renders that had the feature at the bottom bezel of the front panel.

Huawei Mate 9 Specs

Other rumored specs of the Huawei Mate 9 include an octa-core SoC, 4GB or 6GB RAM, and a Full HD 5.9-inch screen, although the display size might differ also if the recent leak is true. It might also come with a minimum 64GB storage.

The Huawei Mate 9 release date is still unknown; rumors point to either a November or December 2016 launch. Either way, more information can be expected soon enough as October nears its ends. Price may start at a pricey $750. It is also unknown if both variants will be available outside China.
