Kindle Fire Release: Amazon to Launch Two New 7-Inch Models but Puts 10-Inch Fire on Hold

Amazon, keeping all recent rumors at bay, will not release a 10-inch Kindle Fire next week, claims a recent report.

According to CNET, Amazon will launch two next-generation Kindle Fire models on Sept. 6, at a press event. Despite the spate of ongoing rumors that surround the release of a 10-inch Kindle slate, the report suggests that the device will not be unveiled at the press event.

Additionally, AppleInsider reported that one of the new Amazon Kindle Fire models will be a 'slightly revamped original' featuring a new UI and sporting a lower price tag. The other variant will be a higher-end model with more on-board storage, a camera, faster processor, physical volume controls, and an HDMI port.

While the news of not releasing a bigger version of Kindle Fire disappoints many users, this is not the first time that experts have denounced rumors of 10-inch Kindle tablet. In July, Richard Shim, an analyst with NPD DisplaySearch, announced that Amazon would unleash at least three new models of Kindle Fire this year. However, the analyst added that a 10-inch Fire would not be coming anytime soon.

Shim's forecasts rejected earlier claims made by various reports. However, he averred that the production status can change from month to month. "These are supply chain indications. This is what we are seeing right now," Shim noted.

Last week, Amazon issued a press release declaring that the Kindle Fire holds a clear 22 percent share in the U.S. tablet market. While the company did not back its claims with specific sales numbers, IDC reported that the company holds the third position in the market and after its sluggish beginning in the Q1 2012, Amazon rebounded with 1.2 million unit sales.

In the same announcement, Amazon also mentioned that the original Kindle tab was out of stock, signaling the debut of a new Fire.
