It just took just around six months to change the stand of HBO, producer of the hit TV series "Sex and the City," in making a third movie installment of the franchise. In May, Sarah Jessica Parker, lead star of the series, said there was no plan for a "Sex and the City 3." Yet on Sunday, the actress told CBS' "Sunday Morning" that there is a high chance the series would be seen again on the silver screen.
"I will say that the idea, it rests in the butler's pantry. Not on the table, but somebody is holding it fairly nearby," Parker said. A third installment would be timely because "Sex and the City 2" was shown in 2010, and 2018 would be the show's 20th anniversary since the sex comedy featuring Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha debuted on HBO.
Four "Sex And The City" Characters Would Be Looking Ahead
Jane Pauley, host of CBS talk show, asked Parker if the third installment would be like a "Golden Girls" version of "Sex and the City." The actress said the four characters would have only interest in looking ahead, while being informed by the past, which should apply to their real lives as well.
The series -- based on the book by Candace Bushnell -- ran for six seasons from 1998 through 2004. It touched on relevant and modern social issues of the times such as sexuality, safe sex, promiscuity and femininity. Parker's legacy, Pauley noted, is six seasons of prowling New York City seeking love and other urban adventures.
According to Parker, she believes that her character's drive "had to be love, love, love, love all the time" in a childish way.
Parker Returns To HBO
Besides possibly being seen on the big screen again -- if ever "Sex and the City 3" pushes through -- Parker is also returning to HBO in a new series titled "Divorce." Her role is a suburban, working mother whose marriage is on the rocks.
