Google Wallet Yanks Prepaid Cards – 5 Important Questions

Google, only recently, decided to discontinue the support for prepaid cards. The company's decision will come into effect from Oct. 17.

Google urged users to spend any remaining balance, since the card will disappear next month. When questioned about the newest change, the company averred that the Wallet recently added support for all major U.S. credit and debit cards, which this will make the process more fluid for users.

However, users may still have concerns and queries regarding the discontinuation of prepaid cards. Here's a look at the top five questions regarding the Wallet and what users need to know.

Will my Wallet feature still work?

Yes. All your credit and debit cards in your Google Wallet will continue to work as they normally do. The only change the feature will go through is the elimination of the Google Prepaid Card from your Google Wallet on October 17, 2012.

What if I have funds left on my card?

It will better if you use your Google Wallet to spend the existing funds on your Google Prepaid Card before the specified date. However, if you are unable to do that, you will have several options to request a refund from Money Network (the servicer of the Google Prepaid Card).

How can I request my refund?

You can directly request the refund on the official Wallet page on Oct. 17.

How long will the refunding process take?

The processing period will depend on what type of refund you select. Note that it may take up to 8 weeks to receive your refund.

I can't find my prepaid card after resetting my Wallet. Where is it?

As mentioned earlier, the Google Prepaid Card has been discontinued and your Google Prepaid Card will not be re-added to your Wallet after you reset your device. However, you can contact Money Network at 855-896-0693 to recover any remaining funds on your Google Prepaid Card.
