Both the highly-anticipated next-gen consoles - Microsoft's Xbox 720 and Sony's PlayStation 4 - are racing head-to-head as far as rumors and leaks are concerned. Per reports, Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot has stated that next-gen console will have bigger games but less of them will be made.
Discussing the importance of F2P and how it allows developers to experiment, Guillemot opined that gamers should have the freedom to use whatever device they have, irrespective of the location, to continue a game.
"What I see for the future is that you'll be able to take console and PC titles wherever you are, whether that's the full experience or [a modified experience for smartphones] where you can prepare for the main game or react to things happening in the world," said Guillemot.
He also mentioned that while next-gen consoles will have bigger games, the number of games produced will decrease. However, it will be different for free-to-play games as the teams aren't as big and game development companies can try different things and find subjects that are of interest to consumers.
"This new environment is actually giving us the chance - because we're reaching new consumers - to develop new types of game brand and experience. What I like about the FTP model is that you are with your consumers all the time - you can spend six months refining the gameplay and then put it in another environment, another title, because you automatically know it works well," he added.
Previously, another game developing company - Remedy - also mentioned the possibilities of next-gen gaming with Remedy's Oskari Hakkinen stating that next-gen consoles will be a quantum leap over their predecessors.
Hakkinen, in an interview, revealed that Remedy is working on an unnamed project which is meant for the next-generation consoles.
