Apple has finally taken the wraps off its much-awaited iPhone 5. While the Cupertino tech giant has made the phone available on almost all leading networks, the company showed a cold shoulder to T-Mobile. However, the nation's fourth-largest network provider has recently asked its users to not to lose hope as the company has announced that it would start getting nano-SIMs in mid-October for customers wishing to buy an iPhone 5.
A tweet from the carrier's support account and a T-Mobile spokesperson have confirmed the validity of the news. Additionally, on Sept. 13, TmoNews published an internal document that confirmed earlier reports which stated T-Mobile's plan of offering nano-SIM cards for unlocked iPhones in October.
Unlike its predecessor's micro-SIM, the new iPhone 5 uses a new nano-SIM card. The nano-SIM is 40 percent smaller than the current micro-SIM, and helps Apple save some more space in the tightly designed interior of its new iPhone.
T-Mobile is now asking customers to buy an unlocked GSM version of the new iPhone from Apple which will run on its HSPA+ network. Customers should note that the new iPhone does not support T-Mobile's 3G service. Therefore, most users will have to be satisfied with the existing 2G EDGE service. T-Mobile's iPhone-compatible 4G HSPA+ are currently available in very few cities like Seattle, Las Vegas, and New York City. However, the carrier assured that it will make LTE operational in more markets by the end of this year.
The pricing for the unlocked iPhone 5 in the U.S. is as follows: $649 (16GB), $749 (32GB), and $849 (64GB). All models are available in white and black options.
