So you got yourself a brand new iPhone and are waiting to transfer all your contacts, especially the important ones, from you old phone to the new device? The procedure, is pretty simple and the transfer can be done via the contact-management applications on your computer such as Microsoft Entourage, Mac OS X Address Book, Yahoo! Address Book, Windows Address Book, and others.
Here are the steps to transfer your contacts (via Contact Management).
Step 1 – Connect the old phone to the computer’s USB port via the data cable that was obtained with the old phone.
Step 2 – Next, export the contacts from the old phone to your computer’s contact-management application. However, note that the procedure for exporting the contacts differ from device to device, depending on your phone’s make and model and, therefore, it is always a good idea to refer to the old device’s user manual.
Step 3 – Now connect your new iPhone to the Apple-made data cable and connect the other end to an available USB port on your computer.
Step 4 – Select iPhone from the list of “Devices,” click the “Info” tab, and check the box to the left of “Sync Address Book Contacts.”
Step 5 – Click on “Sync” and iTunes will now transfer the contacts to your new iPhone. iTunes, later, will indicate as to when it’s safe to remove your iPhone from the data cable.
