Nintendo NX: October 21 Rumored Release Date Could Be The Last Straw

Without any help from Nintendo, the Nintendo NX has become one of the most talked about devices for this half of the year. The company has remained almost frustratingly quiet about the upcoming console, without denial on confirmation on the multiple theories circling online. The disappointment of missing the rumored October 21 unveiling might just be the last push the public needs to turn their backs on the console completely.

As Express UK notes, the Nintendo NX is expected to be unveiled during a Nintendo Direct event on Friday, October 21. However, the estimate has - of course - remained unconfirmed on the part of Nintendo. And with the hours to the day ticking by, the rumor is looking less and less possible.

The rumors surrounding the upcoming console cover more than just its release date. Fans and analysts have offered their own take on the device, from its range of features and design, to its price and power capacity. And without any confirmation, the possibilities are truly endless at this point.

The device is expected to be priced somewhere along US$300 and US$350. As the unit is not expected to be as powerful as its competitors, it might seem a little pricey, as it places the Nintendo NX just below Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One. Some individuals also believe that Nintendo will go back to using cartridges instead of discs.

The Nintendo NX is also expected to come in a hybrid form. That is, that the console will easily be able to transform from a home-docked device to a portable one, thanks to detachable controllers. As a home-console, the unit is expected to be a little larger than the Wii U and will come in white and blue.

Furthermore, the Nintendo NX is expected to come with 4K compatibility, but this might be the most powerful feature of the unit. Even now, the public does not expect Nintendo to compete with Sony and Microsoft in terms of power capacity and will instead put up a fight on the game front. Some expected titles to arrive in the device are "Zombi U," "Mass Effect 3," "Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2" and a new "Mario" game.

With all these expectations on the line, Nintendo has a lot of pressure on its shoulders. And because the unveiling is now firmly believed to take place on October 21, there is even more on the line for the company. Failing to unleash the device before the week - or month - ends, could be catastrophic for the company.

Up until this point, the theories and rumors have kept up the marketing for the Nintendo NX, as well as some passing comments from gaming executives like Yves Guillemot. But the general public is getting saturated and Nintendo has to step up soon. Ironically, Reggie Fils-Aime, president of the Nintendo Company of America did address this previously.

In an interview with AListDaily, Fils-Aime mentioned how the company would need to fix the marketing strategy for its consoles. "One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX [is] we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product," he admitted. "We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience."

Without rescheduling its March 2017 release, the company is sacrificing plenty of promotional time. In addition, the height of expectations might only release to a tumble of disappointments. The clock is ticking on the Nintendo NX.
