Asus' High Priced Windows 8 Tablets Slated For Holiday Season Release

The holiday season will bring in its folds a series of new devices for consumers, among them are a series of hotly-anticipated Windows 8 powered tablets.

According to a recently-leaked holiday roadmap from ZDNet, Asus is also planning to unleash three new Windows 8 tablets during the holiday season. However, the steep pricing of the Asus tablets is raising quite a few eyebrows.

While most of the tablets makers have revealed that the Windows RT devices would be priced as low as $300, the leaked slide suggests that the Asus tablets will be priced as high as $599 to $1,299 for a hybrid.

The leak also discloses that Asus's Tegra 3-powered Vivo Tab will be priced at $599. The Vivo Tab with an Intel Atom chip will start at $799 and the 11.6-inch IPS touch display-enabled Asus Taichi dual-screen notebook/tablet hybrid will likely sport a heftier price tag of $1,299.

It is expected that Asus will revise the leaked pricelist before releasing the devices in the market. However, if the leaked price bears fruition, Asus's new line-up, which is on the upper-end of what Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer called the "sweet spot" for PC pricing, may encounter a rocky road ahead.
