The revival of the classic TV series "Gilmore Girls" is more than just a month away, and the people whom the mother-daughter tandem have touched dearly are coming up with countless gimmicks to express their warmest welcome to the Stars Hollow regulars. In line with the "Gilmore Girls" revival madness going on, New York City's Ample Hills Creamery came up with a "Gilmore Girls" inspired ice cream flavor naming contest that will run from Oct.17 to Oct. 31.
Millions of fans captivated by "Gilmore Girls" during its original series run were all taken aback when CW announced in 2007 that it was not renewing the show for another season despite the cast and the production's eagerness to continue filming. Fortunately, Netflix brought them new hope when it announced in 2015 that "Gilmore Girls" will be back with a four-episode mini series revival.
The excitement of the fans has been turning the country into a larger Stars Hollow, following the previous promo campaign of Netflix that dressed 200 cafes across the U.S. into a Luke's diner-like establishment. And now, another fun idea came up from an NYC-based fan to give honor to the most awaited comeback of "Gilmore Girls."
NYC's Ample Hills Creamery owner Lauren Kaelin admitted that she is one of the huge fans of the Gilmore girls. And now that the wait is almost over for the return of the duo, she organized an ice cream flavor naming contest, which she announced on Oct. 17 via Instagram. Kaelin encourages her co-avid fans to come up with their ice flavors and baptize them with "Gilmore Girls" inspired names. The contest will run until the end of October, where the selected winner will get a free pint of the ice cream flavor, a cup of coffee, and an invitation to a "Friday night dinner," which fans know very well is a family dinner celebrated by the Gilmore family.
The competition has greatly attracted fans from across the states as the notice already gathered 412 comments. Some participants gave interesting entries like "The Lorelai Special or The Lorelai Supply: Coffee flavored ice cream, vanilla swirl and marshmallows," "Fran's Hot Chocolate: frozen peppermint hot chocolate ice cream, choclate chips, marshmallow swirl," "Always a gilmore: sweet cream ice cream, chocolate mocha flavored covered pringle pieces, mallomar pieces" and so much more.
The winning flavor will be made available in New York, but fans from outside will still have the chance to experience the delicious treat since it will be available for ordering through Ample Hill Creamery's website. Kaelin says her addiction of the show had her thinking of the contest and finally materialized it. Her store also dedicated ice cream flavors for "Breaking Bad," Star Wars," and "The X-Files" in the past.
The revival series, "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life," will finally land on Netflix on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25.
