United Front Games, developer of Sleeping Dogs, just announced the shut down the company. The developer also decided that the latest game it released will not be available anymore.
The Last Hurrah Of United Front Games
The rumors started circulating on the internet as several sources claim that servers are shutting down. Adding fuel to the fire is United Front Games pulling the latest game, Smash + Grab, from Steam. This move by the devs created speculations that it will no longer be creating games anymore, according to IGN.
The game Smash + Grab was previously free to download last weekend, Game Spot reported. It even offered a promotional discounted price of $17 to players so they can continue playing it after the weekend, so disappearing suddenly in thin air confused a lot of gamers.
Fans and industry observers are not entirely sure why United Front Games decided to call it quits. A producer took to Twitter to express her disappointment.
"Currently mourning the best job I've ever had, and the most wonderful team I've ever worked with," Jen Timms said. "The end of a great era. Goodbye, UFG." Timms did not offer any explanation, though. As of this writing, United Front Games has not officially announced the news.
Background Of United Front Games
United Front Games' most popular title is the open-world Sleeping Dogs, which was released in 2012. The first game they developed, however, is the kart racing game ModNation Racers for PS3. They also launched LittleBigPlanet Karting, but they have also been tapped in for bigger titles such as Disney Infinity 3.0 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
Many noted that there was potential in United Front Games, but now any future for them is gone. A comment from the devs should be coming soon.
