In a recent Hong Kong event, Qualcomm Incorporated unveiled three new Snapdragon processors namely 653, 626 and 427. This update on Snapdragon's system-on-a-chip (SoC) is aimed to bring high-end capabilities to low and midrange-priced smartphones in the market.
An Update To The Low And Midrange Processors
According to NDTV, the new Snapdragon 653 and 626 SoCs are updated versions of the previous Snapdragon 653 and 625 processors currently used in most midrange smartphones in the market. The Snapdragon 427, on the other hand, is an upgrade of the current 425 processor aimed at entry level handsets. These upgrades are set to give the new processors an increase of 10 percent in performance.
The New Features Of The Updated Snapdragon Processors
The new Snapdragon processors will have the same features and increased capability such as Quick Charge, support for dual cameras and the new Snapdragon X9 LTE modem that promises 300Mbps in download speed and up to 150Mbps on upload. The Snapdragon 626 also now has the capacity to capture 4K videos, as reported by Trusted Reviews.
The New Processor Is Set To Power Upcoming Smartphones
The new Snapdragon 653, 626 and 427 processors are expected to power smartphones to be released in the first quarter of 2017. Qualcomm has not released the list of upcoming smartphones that will make use of the new SoC. However, the tech company said that contracts from popular OEMs to carry the new Snapdragon processors have already been made.
Moving Fast Ahead Of The Competition
Qualcomm's release of new Snapdragon processors shows the company's leadership in the market. Just recently, the company was reported to buy a Dutch Manufacturing company called NXP Semiconductors. Between news, Qualcomm is showing progress from the troubles it suffered from the Snapdragon 810 overheating issue and then losing some sales over Samsung's decision to use its in-house developed Exynos processor over the Snapdragon on its current flagships.
