Facebook Messenger for Android Updated – New Features Arrive

Facebook Messenger for Android has received a brand new update. Per reports, the social networking giant is pushing out Facebook Messenger for Android 2.0, which now has the ability to bring threaded texts and Facebook messages on select phones. This new feature is an exclusive one for Android users.

The new Messenger app also includes a slide-out pane to check out the people online. The Messenger now provides a more conventional conversation view, and turns messages into bubbles. Also, there is now a "last active" indicator that shows when friends were last available for chat.

A new "favorites" area has also been introduced that provides quick access to the people the user chats with the most. The aim, as it seems, is to merge Facebook Messenger with all short form communication on the user's phone. The update also states that it has some bug fixes, improved speed, and is reliable.

As far as the original FB app is concerned, users will now find a new button in upper right of News Feed quickly shows who's available to message. Users can also sort their feeds by tapping the button next to News Feed in the left sidebar. Several bug fixes to solve issues with errors during multi-photo selections, device restarts, and push notifications have also been made.

A Facebook spokesperson told The Verge that now "any text you receive gets delivered to Messenger in addition to your core SMS client."

Select phones, currently, include the HTC EVO 3D, HTC One X, HTC Wildfire S, LG Optimus Black, LG Optimus Hub, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy S3, and the Samsung Galaxy Y.

More devices will be added in the coming weeks.
