iOS 6 Passbook – Starbucks Update Arriving This September

Several Apple users, after upgrading to iOS 6, have hoped to use the Starbucks rewards card in Passbook. Unfortunately, the service is currently not active as Starbucks is yet to update its iOS app with Passbook integration. However, the coffee giant has now confirmed that the update will be arriving by September end.

The Starbucks integration was one of the few things that were expected to arrive along with iOS 6, mostly because Apple originally routed Passbook in the iOS 6 developer betas to the Starbucks app in the App Store.

"Updated to iOS 6? Our Passbook update is coming at the end of this month! 00111010 00101001," the company wrote on its official Twitter page.

Apple's Passbook feature in iOS 6 is an attempt to tap into the possibilities of a virtual wallet. The new feature allows merchants to stock up coupons, tickets, passes, and rewards cards in a barcode form on an iOS device. As soon as the Starbucks update is pushed out, cardholders will be able to pay for their beverages and earn rewards with the Passbook.

However, currently not many apps are available which have Passbook support. The ones that currently do include American Airlines, TicketMaster, and Lufthansa.
