iCloud Glitch Revealed – Offering 25GB of Storage Space Until 2050

Currently, Apple is facing a torrid time dealing with criticisms surrounding its faulty in-house built Maps feature, as well as the problematic Wi-Fi connectivity, but there's more for the company to deal with. Per reports, an internal error has been found in Apple's iCloud management system, which has credited users' accounts with 25GB of storage space, with the next renewal date being 38 years later, which is in 2050.

Blog TUAW was the first to spot the glitch, which has arrived on the day when Apple was expected to cut down on the amount of storage granted to former MobileMe members down to the 5GB limit which is currently offered to iCloud users.

"Twitter user @mgleet tipped me off that Apple appears to have bumped his iCloud storage plan to 25 GBs until the year 2050. Multiple people here at TUAW are seeing the same plan bumps, though none of us has upgraded our plans, not to mention paid 38 years in advance," reported Michael Grothaus of TUAW.

Earlier in May, Apple announced that it would be providing MobileMe subscribers with 20GB of free iCloud storage while the company made way into the new service, with the offer finally coming to end the on Sept. 30. This new extension was aimed at providing paying MobileMe users with extra time to transfer files off Apple's servers and also adapt to the new cloud-syncing service.

However, instead of cutting off the 20GB of extra cloud space (as announced), it seems that a glitch or a certain coding error has not only allowed the 25GB limit to stay, but has also extended the free offer until 2050. Other iCloud users, who never signed up for MobileMe, have also been affected with their accounts being credited with a 20GB hike in storage.

Although, currently, it is not clear whether the changes will actually grant iCloud users with the quoted amount of extra storage that is being shown, or if the error is a temporary one and will disappear in a few days, it is expected that Apple will look into the matter and rectify the situation before additional problems arise.

Users can now check what their storage plan is by going to Settings - iCloud - Account on any iOS device. While free 20GB storage upgrades for previous MobileMe members were set to expire on Sept. 30, a host of users are already seeing the new changes (or errors) with plans now set to expire September 30, 2050.
