The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Hearthfire DLC Released On Steam

Per reports, Bethesda has announced that the Hearthfire DLC is now available on Steam for the PC version of the company's popular action role-playing, open world title "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim."

This DLC is just the second add-on for the game, released after Dawnguard, and was first released on Sept. 4, 2012 for Xbox 360. The DLC has now been made available for PC users via Steam.

The new official add-on to the game will allow users to purchase land and build their own home from the ground up, "from a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with an armory, alchemy laboratory, stable, garden, and more."

Players can now use new tools like the drafting table and carpenter's workbench to transform quarried stone, clay, and sawn logs into structures and furnishings. It is also possible to transform houses into homes by adopting children.

The DLC's key features include new objectives and interactions, where gamers can guard their homes against unwanted visitors like kidnappers, armed bandits, and skeever infestations. The ability to turn almost any follower into a personal steward to improve and protect the home, and even hire a bard or a carriage driver for further help, is now available.

Other features like customizable homes, where players will have the opportunity to grow and modify their homes by including more rooms, grow plants, showcasing trophies, as well as the option to adopt children and discovering new ways to interact with the family, and gaining new bonuses from the family is also present.

Previously, the DLC had only been announced for Xbox 360 as a part of a deal between Microsoft and Bethesda to release two downloadable content packs (including Dawnguard) to the Xbox 360 as 30-day exclusives.

However, on initial release, a number of glitches that kept new gameplay elements from being unlocked marred the DLC's arrival and, therefore, it received mixed to negative reception. Sadly though, no patch to fix this issue has yet been announced, and PC gamers are hoping that all the problems get sorted out before they start downloading the patch.

Hearthfire DLC is priced at $4.99 and can be purchased here.
