Google Street View Updated – 250,000 Miles Of Roads Added

Google is continuing to achieve new heights with its popular Maps app and also the Google Street View. Per reports, Google has updated the imagery for over 250,000 miles of road in its latest Street View update.

The new update, according to Google, is the most comprehensive and the largest of the previous upgrades, and also since its inception. The new upgrade has increased Street View's coverage in the United States, Great Britain, Italy, and Sweden, to name a few.

"Today we're making our Street View coverage more comprehensive than ever before by launching our biggest ever update--doubling our number of special collections and updating over 250,000 miles of roads around the world," stated the official Google Maps blog.

The Street View will now provide increased and improved coverage in Macau, Singapore, Sweden, the U.S., Thailand, Taiwan, Italy, Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, and Canada. Google aldo stated that it is launching special collections in South Africa, Japan, Spain, France, Brazil, and Mexico, among others. Users will now be able to make the most out of the feature to explore famous venues, such as the Taroko Gorge, Taroko National Park, Taiwan, and the courtyard of the Kronborg castle in Denmark.

"You can explore our many new places directly in Google Maps, including parks, city centers, castles and tourist attractions like Catherine Palace and Ferapontov monastery in Russia, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taiwan, or Stanley Park in Vancouver," noted the Google Maps blog. "You can even walk through the urban jungle of Singapore's Fort Canning Park, without ever leaving home."

Street View from Google still remains as one of be the most important features of Google Maps over the newly introduced Apple Maps feature. Google also recently added the iOS Street View capabilities to its maps web application following the host of complaints and criticism from users and techies over Apple's Maps.

As far as introducing the iOS Street View capabilities to Google Maps' web app is concerned, previously, Google was rumored to introduce the feature for Apple users as an attempt to back them up with the web-based Maps client.

However, at launch, the roll-out was only limited to certain areas that were supported at that time.
