Gmail 4.2 For Android Leaks With New Gesture Control – Pinch-to-Zoom Added

Google has yet another leak, and this time it's a new and improved Gmail. Per reports, a leaked version of a new Gmail for Android is making rounds on the web and apparently, the leak has arrived courtesy LG's widely rumored Nexus smartphone.

The new Gmail app, currently referred to as version 4.2, has been leaked on the Internet with some brand new and highly expected UI tweaks and improvements, the most important of them being the ability to pinch-to-zoom messages.

Web site Android Police were the first to chance on the leaked version of the Gmail, and have shed more light onto the pinch-to-zoom modification, which is a welcome addition to the popular mail app from Google. The new ability will make it easier for users to handle large HTML-based on a mobile platform, especially smartphones with a slightly smaller display.

Other changes that have been reported include the ability to swipe messages away for deletion or archive them, which is quite similar to the notification shade. Also, the ability to report phishing directly from within the app is now available. These improvements may not look like huge alterations, but when the new changes are compared with the ones found in the old version of the app, it is a major upgrade for the future.

"The default, "Archive or delete," will archive swiped messages when you're in the inbox, delete swiped messages when you're in All Mail or Sent, and remove a label when you're in a label-only view," the Android Police report states. "We aren't allowed to share the APK just yet, but we're working on getting the permission necessary to do so. You would need to be rooted and running 4.0+. No promises though."

Interestingly, the new version of the app has been marked as version 4.2. This convention coincides with the long lasting tradition of Google where the company, before shipping out a new version of Android, updates its apps to bring them in line with the new OS. Moreover, this naming convention would match all the information that has been previously acquired about the next Nexus smartphone that is currently being tested with Android 4.2, and not with the previous version 4.1.2.
