Android Jelly Bean 4.1 Leaked for Motorola DROID RAZR M

When the Verizon-based Motorola RAZR M first arrived, a few fans were let down by the unflattering lack of Android Jelly Bean 4.1 on the device, out-of-the-box. Now, although it is expected that Motorola will eventually start pushing out the new update in the near future, a new Jelly Bean firmware leak has already brought the updated OS to RAZR M, with a belief that good things are coming for the company’s popular mid-range smartphone.

Similar to other leaks on the web, this is not the official Jelly Bean release by the company, but just a firmware release that is intended for users who want to get the Jelly Bean on their device rather than waiting for the company to officially push it out.

The Motorola DROID RAZR M, with its release, has already raised expectations of affordable devices, which actually blurs out the fine dividing line between mid-end and high-end smartphones. The RAZR M, worth $100, has arrived with decent specifications, a comparatively better build quality than its predecessors, and the overall performance that made smartphone users opt for the device.

However, until now, the device lacked the Jelly Bean support, and few users were actually shocked to see the arrival of a smartphone in the second half of 2012 with Ice Cream Sandwich still running. Motorola took note of the issue and promised a Jelly Bean update before the end of the year, and with the recent firmware leak happening, the arrival date could arrive much sooner.

As mentioned earlier, these new leaks are neither official nor final, and a few more bugs and glitches are still expected to arrive along with the firmware. Moreover, because the build is not really ready for the masses, installing it could mean an unusual stop to upcoming updates (mostly official) from the company, which could only be stopped by another newer leak that would downgrade the device.

“No Warranties about future upgrades if you have consumer device, but here is JellyBean for the Razr M,” P3Droid wrote on Twitter.

However, the best thing about the newly leaked firmware is that the device doesn’t needs to be rooted to install the firmware, and those who are interested can grab the 225 MB-worth leak named Blur Version.77.111.10.XT907.Verizon.en.US.

Users will later need to rename the downloaded file to “update.zip”, copy it to the root of the microSD card, reboot into recovery, and tap on “install update.zip”. However, it is important to note here that doing this could void the device’s warranty, or even harm the DROID RAZR M.
