iOS 6 Jailbreak – Redsn0w Updated to v0.9.15b1 with Cydia for iPod Touch, iPhone (A4)

The iPhone Dev-Team, on Sunday, announced that the team has just updated its popular jailbreaking tool Redsn0w with a major update. The new Redsn0w version 0.9.15b1 has arrived with significant changes and upgrades, including full support for final public release of iOS 6 on select devices with official version of Cydia, along with tons of new features.

Moreover, the updated Redsn0w 0.9.15b1 for both Windows and Mac has also added support for both re-restoring and downgrading of select devices from iOS 6 to an older firmware, and again re-restoring from any iOS 5.x to any other iOS 5.x on all devices. This, of course, will be possible as long as the correct blobs are saved.

As far as supported devices are concerned, it is important to note this is a tethered jailbreak and is only meant for devices with an A4 processor (or less), like the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the 4th-gen iPod touch.

On a more positive note, the latest version of Redsn0w will exempt the user from the trouble of downloading and pointing the app to the iOS 6 IPSW for the jailbreak. This is in comparison with the older version of Redsn0w that required manual IPSW selection.

However, instead, the latest Redsn0w build recognizes the firmware already installed on the device, downloads the required files, and later proceeds with the jailbreak.

Here are the steps to jailbreak iOS 6 with Redsn0w 0.9.15b1 –

Step 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.15b1 for Windows and Mac (Links can be found below).

Step 2: Next, download iOS 6 and update the A4 device to the latest version. Check out for the instructions here.

Step 3: Now, run Redsn0w (in administrator mode if using a PC). Note that if anyone is on OS X Mountain Lion, they will need to start Redsn0w by “Ctrl-Click” on the icon and then selecting “Open” from the new menu.

Step 4: Next, click on “Jailbreak,” select “Cydia” and put the device into DFU mode when Redsn0w prompts to do so with the help of onscreen instructions. After the device is in DFU mode, Redsn0w will start the jailbreaking process using limera1n exploit.

Step 5: Once this is done, select “Autoboot this device when it connects in DFU mode” option to enter tethered mode. After a while, the device will reboot with the Cydia icon on the home screen.

Step 6: As this is a tethered iOS 6 jailbreak, users will need to boot the device in tethered mode every time it is turned off and on. This can be done by using Redsn0w. Users will just need to click on “Extras” on the main screen and then click on “Just Boot.”

Step 7: Follow the instructions on the screen and once you they are done, the device will be rebooted into tethered jailbreak mode.

Important: Devices with A5 (iPhone 4S, iPad 2), A5X (iPad 3) and A6 (iPhone 5) processors are not supported currently. However, according to Redmond Pie, Hacktivation and baseband preservation support has also been added for iPhone 4 and 3GS.
