Google Incorporates Drive Into Search – Field Trial Expanded

Google is slowly expanding its popular search program and per reports, registered Google users will now see Google Drive files appear in search results. These files will be generated both from Gmail and the Google.com homepage.

This feature is the latest inclusion in the program after Google started a feature last month, which added relevant Gmail messages to the user's search results. However, the new inclusion has been made with an aim to offer a potentially faster and easier way for users to access data. Moreover, Gmail searches will also return results from Google Calendar events.

"When you're looking for something, you should be able to find what you need quickly and easily without needing to think about where it might be, whether it's in your email or out on the public web," states Bram Moolenaar of Google. "So starting today, you can sign up for a new and expanded field trial that makes it easier to find your stuff across Google, whether you're searching on Google.com or searching in Gmail."

Users, who begin to type into the search box, will instantly start seeing relevant e-mails from Gmail as well as results from Google Drive, Google Calendar, and more.

Moreover, similarly, when users make a query on Google, their results will include relevant information and messages from not only Gmail, but also files, documents, spreadsheets, and more from Google Drive. Users who joined the original field trial are already familiar with this process.

However, it is important to remember that this trial is currently only accessible on Google.com in English and for @gmail.com addresses. Due to limited capacity and initial setup, users will receive an e-mail confirmation from Google when their account is ready, and possibly other update e-mails that will be initiated during the trial.

However, Google may not be able to activate the experiment for everyone and the feature is currently not available on Google Apps accounts.

The new report arrived after it was previously reported that Google is redesigning its official homepage for mobile phones and mobile devices.
