Nintendo NX Delayed Again: Console Over Before It Began?

The Nintendo NX, the world's most elusive piece of technology, has done it again. While the public had generally expected that the console would finally be revealed at the end of the week, it no longer seems so. Not only has the event been unconfirmed, but there are various individuals who are claiming it will still take a while.

Industry insider Dr. Serkan Toto told his Twitter followers that the reveal date of the Nintendo NX has likely been pushed back. "No trolling intended and take this one with a big grain of salt," he wrote. "But I was told not to expect [an] NX reveal this week. Might be wrong!" Initially, the reveal was expected to happen on October 21, via Nintendo Direct.

Toto went to say, however, that the Nintendo NX will definitely be talked about next week during Nintendo's second quarter earnings report. While this may be true, this does not mean a reveal to the public. Instead, it could just mean that the company executives want to see how things will pan out for the console, but details could still be kept under wraps.

To support this, Business Insider reports that a Nintendo spokesperson has confirmed that the Nintendo NX will still be revealed before the year ends. Furthermore, that spokesperson was talking within the range of the second quarter earnings report, which will be on October 26. But again, the details and amount of information that will be shared by Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima are unknown. Essentially, Kimishima could simply mention that the console exists.

Sure, the delay at this point is only 5 days. But the constant build up and following disappointment could prove too much for fans of Nintendo, who have been eagerly awaiting the Nintendo NX for weeks, if not months. Granted, Nintendo has confirmed nothing but a March 2017 release, but the clock is ticking and time is running out.

It does not exactly help that various gaming executives have made their praise of the Nintendo NX public, yet eager fans have not even gotten scraps of an official announcement. With less than six months till the scheduled reveal, it might do the company well to at least confirm when the reveal will be. This rollercoaster that fans have been on is getting tiring and is only hurting the console.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime had it right when he said the company had to fix its marketing strategy in order to correct its mistakes on the Wii U. "One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX [is] we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product," he told A List Daily. "We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience."

When the statement was first released, it gave some resemblance of hope to the ones who have believed and continue to believe in the Nintendo brand. However, it may be so that bad habits die hard. Hopefully, however, the Nintendo NX is everything the public has been expecting - worthy of the wait and worthy of the praise.
