The highly awaited Motorola Droid RAZR HD is finally here. Per reports, the 4.7-inch Motorola Droid RAZR HD is now available via Verizon.
The Motorola Droid RAZR HD, which was announced this year in September, boasts a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. The device currently runs Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which will be later upgraded to v4.1, alongside an 8-megapixel primary and 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter. A dual-core 1.5 GHz processor powers the device.
Apart from the Droid RAZR HD, Verizon has also listed the RAZR MAXX HD from Motorola, which was also announced at the same time as the Droid RAZR HD. The RAZR MAXX HD also boasts nearly the same features as that of its sibling. It features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with the same pixel count, Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich that can be later upgraded to v4.1, and the same 8-megapixel primary and 1.3-megapixel secondary cameras.
However, for power users, Motorola has also unveiled the RAZR HD Developer Edition and its unlockable bootloader, but the same for RAZR MAXX HD is not expected anytime soon. The Developer Edition of the device is identical to the retail model of the Razr HD that Verizon is selling.
Nonetheless, there is one significant difference - unlike the retail model, the developer version ships with an unlocked bootloader. What this means is that the new feature will now allow developers and fans to install alternative ROMs without much problem.
"This DEVELOPER EDITION device has all the power, speed and specs of the DROID RAZR HD, with all the possibilities offered by an unlockable bootloader," the official page states.
For users who are not really accustomed to bootloader, it is a piece of code that coordinates with the device's operating system and tells it how to boot up. It is the code that makes the device start up and run the way the user feels comfortable and is used to.
However, it is to be remembered that once the unlock code is attained, the device will no longer be covered by the Motorola warranty. This aspect means that if anything goes wrong with the device, Motorola shall not be held responsible, even if they appear unrelated to unlocking the bootloader.
Not surprisingly, the unlocked device, per reports, comes with a hefty price tag of $599.99.
