Google Wallet’s NFC-based payment system still has a long way to go before it can finally make an impact on how people pay for the products they purchase, and Google is doing potentially everything to bring the process in the forefront. Now, per reports, Google Wallet will be offered as an optional payment method on select mobile websites.
The select mobile sites include 1-800-Flowers.com, Rockport.com, and FiveGuys.com. This is an entirely new announcement by Google after the company previously stated that it would allow online shoppers to purchase premium digital content, ideally priced under $1.00, which also included a 30-minute money-back refund.
“Typically, on mobile websites, you need to key in 17-20 fields of information on a small screen while having to click and scroll through multiple pages to provide shipping and billing information. It’s no wonder up to 97% of mobile shoppers abandon their mobile shopping carts. Google Wallet makes it easy and secure for you,” the official Google Commerce Blog states. “Simply click the Buy with Google Wallet button, log into Google Wallet and click to complete your order. That’s it — you’re done in 3 steps.”
“With Google Wallet, you can buy flowers and gifts at 1-800-Flowers.com quickly and easily on your mobile phone. You can also use Google Wallet to buy on Rockport.com and FiveGuys.com (at select locations).”
This is a major move by Google considering that Google Wallet hasn’t really gained the expected popularity in terms of being an NFC-enabled service for making mobile payments at point-of-sale out in the real world. However, the company can take comfort from the fact that no digital wallet provider has won the mobile payments battle yet, and that’s why it’s important that Google Wallet is now expanding its focus in order to become a more widespread digital payments platform that, for example, can take on the likes of PayPal.
With the Google Wallet, users can now pay without entering their credit or debit card number, billing address, or other payment information, this is because it’s already securely stored in the users’ Google Wallet. Moreover, users can also set up a default card for future purchases on your Google Wallet account, making future transactions even faster.
Google is currently “working with a number of other exciting retailers to integrate Google Wallet on their mobile sites, including Finish Line, MovieTickets.com, Seamless, SwimOutlet.com and more.”
