Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 easily has one of the most advanced hardwares around, and previously there have been talks about the device’s Multi-Window feature and how it only supports up to two apps to be displayed on the screen at the same time, and that too depending on the app developers if that feature would be built-in with the app.
Now, per reports, the Android community has come up with a mod that will let the device feature more than just a couple of windows for any desired app.
The mod will now help users add any application to the list of those which can benefit from multi-window. As far as the mod’s installation is concerned, it is quite simple with the user just needing to flash it in Recovery mode.
However, it is to be remembered that the user will first need to find the proper mod compatible with his or her version of the ROM, and will also have to check out whether it is odexed or deodexed. For those who are unaware, an .ODEX file is an optimized Dalvik executable file, similar to an .EXE in windows.
The .ODEX is compressed to save space, and contains bits and pieces of its application that are optimized before Android boots. What this does is it helps speed up the boot process while pre-loading parts of the application.
A DEODEX file, on the other hand, is not a file extension like .ODEX is. Rather, apps that are DEODEXed are assembled in such a way that they aren’t “pre-optimized” and the bits that would have normally gone into a separate .ODEX file are now put into classes.dex files and kept inside the .APK (Android Package). This classification is meant to aid easy modification and theming.
The community states that XDA Senior Member goddamnit “has released a mod that allows users to add any application to the multi user interface. It also allows users to add as many apps as they want. This is one of those mods that everyone knew was coming, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome than it is actually here.”
To make the installation process easier, the user, as mentioned earlier, will need to flash the mod in recovery and then be able to add whatever apps they want to the multi-window. Primarily, the user needs to flash the mod made specifically for his or her ROM’s version. Note that currently, LJ1, LJ3, and LJ7 are supported
However, before going forward with the installation, it is to be remembered that this is an early release and some bugs may exist.
