Skyrim Dragonborn DLC Made Official

“Skyrim” is finally back in business with an entirely new DLC for its fans. Per reports, developer Bethesda has finally revealed the next set of downloadable content for “Skyrim” called Dragonborn.

The Dragonborn DLC is now set to arrive on Dec. 4 for Xbox 360 and cost 1600 Microsoft Points or $20.

The latest DLC, the third add-on for the game, is set to include the ability to mount dragons with players now being able to fly atop dragons to the new environment of Solstheim. Interestingly, the DLC's first trailer, released on Nov. 5, suggested that it will allow the player to ride Dragons and that the plot will revolve around the return of the first Dragonborn, in the island of Solstheim, previously featured in Bloodmoon, which was an expansion to the third game in the series, Morrowind, which was set 200 years before the events of “Skyrim.”

Gamers familiar with “Elder Scrolls” will know the island of Solstheim as the setting for Bloodmoon, the second expansion for “The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.” The island, as fans would recollect, is known for its vast ebony mine. Moreover, it was also the new homeland for the Dunmer after the eruption of Red Mountain.

Although the DLC has only been announced for Xbox till now, if the game’s development history is taken into consideration, Dragonborn should surface on PC within the following four to five weeks. The PlayStation 3 version of the DLC, however, will still have to wait as it is currently awaiting both of Skyrim's two earlier DLCs – Dawnguard and Heathfire – due to technical and performance issues rather than contractual reasons.

As reported by Gaming Illustrated, the game’s famous locations “such as Raven’s Rock, Telvanni Tower and Castle Kaarstag are scattered throughout the island. Various new weapon and armor types including Bonemold, Chitin, Nordic and Stalhrim can be found on Solstheim.”

This development is a new one on part of the Dragonborn DLC after developer and publisher Bethesda teased – via its Twitter account – that a new DLC is on its way for the game. At that time, while the company did not reveal much about the upcoming DLC, it shared an image of a character that will be present on this DLC.

Additionally, it has been reported that “Skyrim” DLCs for PlayStation 3 is just a matter of time before they hit the console. Bethesda, however, has been very careful to not put a timeline on additional content that could lead to mass dissatisfaction, provided the DLCs don’t arrive in time for PS3.

“To update: we’re also close on new Skyrim content for PS3 and PC,” a new tweet from Bethesda reads.
