Microsoft To Push Out Windows 8, Windows RT Security Updates On Nov. 13

Microsoft released both Windows 8 and Windows RT for its users with a host of new features and functionalities. Now, per reports, the Redmond-based company is all set to push out security updates for the new operating systems.

According to Microsoft, the company will push out a set of six security updates next week, including three for Windows 8 as well as Windows RT. These updates will now address as many as 19 vulnerabilities found in the operating system itself, Internet Explorer, and the .NET framework.

The four most important updates will now patch 13 bugs, including an unknown number in Windows Server 2012, Windows 8 and Windows RT, the operating system that powers Microsoft's own Surface RT tablet, per the advance warning Microsoft published on Thursday, Nov. 8.

To help customers prioritize the monthly security updates with any non-security updates on Microsoft Update (MU), Windows Update (WU), and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) being released the same day, the bulletin advance notification from Microsoft also provides information about the updated versions of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, and the non-security, high-priority updates on Microsoft Update, Windows Update, and Windows Server Update Services.

However, the company states that “the bulletin advance notification will only provide information about non-security, high-priority updates that are released the same day as the security updates. The bulletin advance notification does not provide information about non-security updates released on other days.”

The Windows 8 and Windows RT security updates, per plans, will be the first ones to be shipped since the operating systems' launch on Oct. 26. It is important to note that while Microsoft had previously issued patches for the new operating systems, all but a September "out-of-band" fix for IE still faced problems in its unfinished previews and not the final code.

The new non-security content include updates for Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB2685811), for User-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB2685813), for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB2750841), for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB2761217), for Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Server 2012 (KB2772501), and more.

Users will just need to keep an eye out for the updates which, per a Pocketnow report, are believed to be delivered around 1PM ET on Nov. 13. See here for more details.
