Nintendo Switch Specs, Features, Design: Why It Exceeds Expectations

For a while there, it seemed like Nintendo would not be able to live up to all the hype that was following the Nintendo NX. But the Japanese gaming company has again taken the tech industry by surprise and has released a teaser on what could prove to be the most exciting console in years. At this point, it is exactly what was thought it would be and more.

Granted, there is not a lot known about the Nintendo NX, which has officially been dubbed as the Nintendo Switch. All the company has released is a teaser video, but it does look amazing. The definite specs are unknown at this point, but the video does provide the public with a necessary insight at the device.

As noted by HypeBeast, the Nintendo NX is hybrid device, which works both as a portable console and a home-docked unit. As a portable device, there is a 7-inch screen, which is controlled by side buttons. However, when the user wants to play on a television screen, the sides disconnect and can be attached to a Switch Dock. The display then easily slides inside a home dock.

The power seems to come primarily from the display itself. Which, as the publication claims, houses a NVIDIA graphics chip. Reportedly, NVIDIA put together a custom software for the Nintendo Switch, installing a new physics engine, new libraries, and advanced game tools. This personalized feature lets the device stay lightweight, fast and powerful.

"The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from," Nintendo confirmed with IGN. "The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system."

The video also shows that the Nintendo Switch has a multiplayer feature, though exactly how is still unknown. There are, however, various multiplayer modes, the first of which is connecting with other users who have the device and engaging in competitive party play. The other is using each side of the controller as a separate unit. The last variant is a combination of both.

The Nintendo Switch, which will be released in March 2017, will bring with it a range of titles that have become synonymous with Nintendo. This includes "3D Super Mario," "The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild," "NBA 2K17," and "Mario Kart 8." Like was rumored before the release, the unit also relies on mini cartridges instead of discs, which might mean that online purchases will not be a possibility.

With all these features - even with a bit uncertainty in the air - the Nintendo Switch is geared up to blow even the Nintendo NX out of the water. It has the innovation that has solidified Nintendo in the gaming world but seems to have the power that will make it a worthy competitor of Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One. March 2017 cannot come soon enough.
