Nexus phone owners are in for a bit of surprise. Per reports, a host of Nexus phone owners are now reporting that their devices are getting Android 4.2 over-the-air (OTA) updates.
While this news has come as big surprise to most of the owners, some technology dedicated Web sites state that it is a completely normal move "for Google to start delivering the new version of the OS to older Nexus phones" with pre-orders already starting for Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 devices.
However, it has been reported that only GSM-based Galaxy Nexuses are getting the refresh, and that the new update has arrived with Gesture Typing, Photosphere, and other important features.
Interestingly, users with a Takju device can grab the update manually from the link given below and check out the OS' new features if they haven't received the update notification just yet.
"Basically we've still not been able to enjoy the new multi-user accounts or lockscreen widgets in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, as those features weren't yet available," the Android Community states.
However, the new features that will be rolling out with Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 tablet include the following:
Multi-user support: This option will let users share their tablet with friends and family, with separate customizable spaces for each person. All the user needs to do is turn on his or her tablet and tap the photo to sign in to the user's own homescreen, apps, e-mail, photos, and storage. Now it seems like Customizing the home screen is also pretty easy. Users can now choose wallpapers, add favorite apps and games from Google Play, create folders and arrange widgets in any specific way they might like. Basically, it's just makes use of the drag and drop mechanism.
Lock screen widgets: This feature allows users to customize their lock screen with widgets that will let them see the calendar and e-mail, identify music with Sound Search, and more. Importantly, third-party developers now also have the option to make widgets and the new camera feature will let users unlock directly to the camera for quick photos, so as not to waste a single moment.
The phone's Android 4.2 update, however, will not enjoy the multi-user support. Check here for the manual update to Android 4.2 (for Takju devices only).
