Google Pixel Phone Passes Bend and Scratch Tests, Flame Test Not So Much

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL are the hottest android smartphones in the market right now. The smartphones have been widely praised for its hardware and software combo, but how does it fare if exposed to real-life usage? Will it bend, scratch or burn that easily?.

The Google Pixel Phone Scratch Test

Phone Area reported that the Google Pixel Phone has passed in the scratch test. This is based on a torture test conducted by a YouTuber, JerryRigEverything, who had the phone go through a series of tests that simulates probable scenario the phone could be facing in real-world usage. With the phone's sturdy body construction, it has fared well in a scratch test by random wallet objects like keys, coins and even razors. The front screen protected by Gorilla Glass 4 did very well in the test with no marks of scratches on either of those subjects. With the back panel however, some light scratching can be seen only after using extremely pointed objects like a paper knife.

For the remaining body, the aluminum construction also did well against the scratch test only showing some light scuffs that are easily fixed by just wiping off. However, the protective coating on the fingerprint scanner on the rear side can be easily removed, but not in a way that would cause the feature not to function.

The Google Pixel Phone Bend Test

A report from Android Headlines noted that the Google Pixel phone's strong build was able to resist pressure applied in bending the device. Doing the bend test on the front, the smartphone was able to withstand the force applied as it showed no flexing or bending. When the same pressure is applied on the back, a little bulging on the screen can be seen, though it disappears after a while when released.

The Google Pixel Phone Flame Test

In the same report, the Google-branded device also went through a flame test. Flame-resistant technology has not been introduced on any smartphones yet so its failure was somewhat expected. Although, it should be noted that the Google Pixel phone was able to last for about 11 seconds before the front screen began to show damage during the said test.

This amount of work Google did on the Pixel Phone is commendable, especially in its durability that was much better than last year's Nexus 6P when it did the same test. These results add to the long list of features that make the Google Pixel phone as one of the best smartphones to come out this year.
