Users of Google Nexus 4, as well as Nexus 10 are in for a treat. Per reports, a brand new root, which was highly anticipated for quite some time, has arrived for the owners of Nexus 4, alongside a ClockworkMOD recovery for Nexus 10 owners.
The Nexus 4, running the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, started hitting the shelves in the U.S. and UK only recently. However, while the remaining parts of the world eagerly wait for the device arrive, developers have made sure that a root as well as a ClockworkMOD is already present to greet them as soon as they get their hands on the device.
“To my knowledge, this is the first and currently (but not for long), the only confirmed working rooting method for Nexus 4 posted here at XDA. Though my knowledge is limited, so please correct me if I am wrong,” the developer page states. “I originally posted this method at AddictiveTips. The method I posted there is targeted at everyone including the absolute beginners and I have also included instructions there for setting up the required tools, and for reverting back to the original recovery and boot image in case anything goes wrong.”
Those who are accustomed to rooting a device shouldn’t have any problems, but for ones who are only recently treading into unknown waters, there are currently two ways of rooting a pure-Android device and one of them requires booting with an insecure boot image and manually transferring root files to the device via ADB. The other one relies on using ClockworkMOD recovery to flash a zip file containing root files.
As far as a ClockworkMOD Recovery is concerned, both the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 10 have now received their official bits of the mod. Unfortunately, the ROM Manager procedure is only in its beta stage and, currently, is not working as it should, but as soon as the mod is applied, users can expect more work done by developers.
“I recommend using fastboot first for early adopters, rather than the ROM Manager flash. I don't have these devices yet (shipping), so I am testing via proxy,” developer Koush states in his Google Plus page.
