It seems like Google is almost done with the development of a brand new iOS-based Google Maps for its Apple fans. Per reports, Google is ready to present the newly developed app for iOS users and is expecting a green signal from Apple.
Google is aware of the problems the iOS users are currently facing with the Apple-built Maps feature, which was developed by the Cupertino-based company in an attempt to neutralize any kind of existing Google support on Apple devices. However, while iOS 6 is clearly a step up from iOS 5 and offers some new features for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users to utilize, Apple’s in-house iOS 6 Maps app is clearly a failure, with users still waiting for some kind of an update or fix to the current problem.
“The good news, is that it looks like Google are ready for a new type of Apple showdown, with an all new effort of Google Maps which has been rebuilt for support with iOS 6. It’s no secret that Google Maps remains the number one choice for mobile mapping solutions at the moment on iOS, with Apple clearly wanting to do away with Google’s constant stamp on the iPhone,” a Product Review report states.
Moreover, the current situation with Google Maps on iOS is pretty similar to the recent removal of the built-in iOS YouTube app, as it had a Google tag. However, Google didn’t give up on that either and the company quickly developed an independent YouTube application, which is now available for standalone installation from the App Store.
Nonetheless, what will be important for Google now is “the big wait to see if Apple will actually accept Google Maps on iOS 6 when it goes under the infamous App Store review process.”
Google Maps for iOS has been in news for quite some time now. Previously, it was reported that Google was expanding the testing project for the new Google Maps before the company applies for a legal approval from Apple.
It was also stated that the company had been giving some of its friends a copy of this new iOS app to test out.
